Ship Security Alert System:
The Ship Security Alert System (SSAS) is a two-way communication system developed to enhance security following the 9/11 attacks. Due to the steady increase in terror incidents, the IMO/SOLAS initiated an intensive program of activity, resulting in the installation of the SSAS for all types of international voyages, including passenger ships, cargo ships of 500 gross tons and above, and MODUs (Mobil Offshore Drilling Units) constructed on or after July 1, 2004. For ships, ferries, and cargo ships for tankers and gas constructed before July 1, 2004, the system must be installed by no later than the first survey of their radio installation after July 1, 2004. For other cargo ships of over 500 gross tons and MODUs constructed before July 1, 2004, it must be installed by no later than the first survey of their radio installation after July 1, 2006.
SSAS Application Process
SSAS Registry:
The shipping company information should be SSAS registered when making new applications (new or modified).
※ Documents: Business license, Safety Management Suitability Certificate, CSO Training Certificate, nationality registry, SMC, vessel operation statement (or Agency Registration Certificate)
- 1) Click the [Apply for SSAS] button;
- 2) Click [Ship Search] – [New Input].
New Application (New Registration):
- 1) Click [My Page];
- 2) Click [SSAS Services] – [Ship Information Management] – [Registration], [Ship];
- 3) Click [Select Nationality], enter [IMO No.] and [Inquire];
- 4) Select the result;
- 5) Click the [Apply] button after filling in the blanks.
Application for Changes (Change of Ship Contact, Tonnage, SSAS Terminal Modification):
- 1) Click the [Change] button after filling out the reason for requesting the change;
- 2) Prepare the required documents for completing changes (e.g., a Radio Station Inspection Certificate for SSAS terminal change, an ITC Certificate for tonnage modification).
Deletion of an SSAS Ship (Sale or Cancellation):
- 1) Click the [Delete Request] button after filling out the reason for requesting deletion;
- 2) When a new application is requested because of a change in management agency or for other reasons, after submitting the necessary application documents, prior information will be deleted and new information will be approved accordingly (Nationality Registry, SMC, Vessel Description).
